Its July, it’s cold and windy, and it might even be wet. But you still need your fix of a freshly brewed coffee and that Saturday morning Egg and Bacon Roll before you get your supplies of fresh produce. So come on down, the Farmers Markets are always on the third Saturday of the month come rain, hail or shine. Find us in the St Marys churchyard, on the corner of Church and Market Streets, from 8.30 till 12.30.
Saturday night dinner? We’ve got it covered..I’m thinking slow roast pork roll from Merrifield Free Range Pork, coated in a grainy mustard from Luciano’s Bit on the Side, desiree spuds, parsnips and pumpkin to roast from Kurrawong Organics, apple sauce from Adriennes Kitchen, and to wash it all down, a bottle (or two) of 2013 Gatekeeper Shiraz from Yeates Wines.

While the main reason many people visit farmers markets is to purchase the best, fresh, locally grown produce, there are many other reasons why they are becoming such popular events in Australia.
In addition to getting to meet the people who grow your food and learn more about it, farmers markets often have other educational opportunities as well. Ranging from cooking demonstrations to seminars about the benefits of choosing organic produce to informational sessions about changes to laws that affect farmers, chances to learn something new abound at farmers markets.

Christine Corner, the Queen of fermenting in Mudgee is passionate about the health benefits, great taste and downright good fun of fermenting food and beverages!
When: Saturday 30th August, starting at 9.30am
Where: St Marys Church kitchens, Mudgee. Follow the signs from Church Street.
During the 1 ½ hour workshop, she will talk about the benefits and history of each ferment, demonstrate, and give tasting samples on how to make Kombucha, water and milk kefir, sauerkraut, and lacto fermented vegetables. Then have some hands on fun, chopping and mixing to make your own jar of sauerkraut to take home.
Participants will also be able to purchase cultures and small fermenting kits for sauerkraut,pickles and kefir on the day.
Cost of the workshop is $45/MFFI members and $55/ non members
The class will be limited to 12 people.
On the October Long Weekend, Saturday the 4th, Mudgee Fine Foods will once again combine forces with Mudgee Arts to hold our successful Makers Markets.
This is where we host the best of the region’s food, wine and art, all in the Church grounds of St Marys.
